Softly Spoken - South East Open Studios Project
Softly Spoken is a deliberately playful but long-thought-through installation artwork featuring some 460 soft balls of wool set in a contrasting sharp isosceles wood triangular frame. It sits vertically on its own base.
Its theme is how so much of our life is guided and interpreted through pixels, and through the re-arranging of those pixels, infinitely different messages can be created that in turn influence how we see and think.
For Softly Spoken, Martin wanted the viewer to imagine what they would say if they could move the ‘dots’ of wool around? A message? An image?
The softness of the wool contrasting with the sharpness of the giant isosceles triangle it sits within.
Martin wants viewers to have a think, have fun - and enjoy it. And he doesn’t mind if people would like to touch it.
Softly.
