Echoes of the past
Acoustic mirrors once served as early warning systems, detecting enemy aircraft before radar. As a memorial, such a structure seeks to symbolise stening to history’s warnings—honouring those who lived through war and urging us to prevent its repetition.
Listening is active, not passive. An acoustic mirror invites engagement, amplifying stories of suffering, resilience, and sacrifice. It reminds us that remembering history is not just about seeing but truly hearing.
These structures amplify distant sounds, yet in a memorial, they may reflect the silence left by those lost to war. They also call attention to overlooked narratives, ensuring no story is forgotten.
As VE Day marks 80 years, it reminds us that peace is fragile and hard-earned. This memorial in the form of an acoustic mirror would not only commemorate the past but also encourage us to listen— to history, to one another, and to the ongoing need for vigilance and unity.

100 new homes for 100 veterans
Since 1919, Royal British Legion Industries Village has been a community dedicated to the care and support of those in need. Currently, it is home to over 300 veterans and their families, but they are at capacity and the need continues to grow. That is why they have launched their VE Day Tommy campaign to help with a new development at their site, that will deliver 100 new homes for 100 veterans.
You can directly support this campaign by purchasing a commemorative VE Day Tommy from www.rbli.shop. The funds raised will help support housing those members of their veteran community who find themselves most in need. Without the support of the great British public, RBLI wouldn’t be able to deliver the vitally important work they do to support their brave Armed Forces community.
